Going to a foreign country?

Not knowing the language will not be that much fun if you are not Bill Murray. You could have a necessity to speak a not local language nearly anywhere: in a new country, in less known part of town or even in your own house if you have a not local wife.
In what way does one explain themselves in such circumstances? You might try using fingers to get a few things across. The problem is that there are many countries out there as well as there are various contexts. You could carry a dictionary around and hastily sieve through thousands of phrases in a split of a second. It might be inconvenient if you are not that prompt. Or you can go for a more up-to-date and convenient solution. Like buying an electronic Language translator.
